Cigarette ignition of upholstered furniture is a major cause of life loss due to fire in the United States. NFPA 260: Standard Methods of Tests and Classification System for Cigarette Ignition Resistance of Components of Upholstered Furniture provides six laboratory testing procedures for evaluating the performance of upholstered furniture components when exposed to smoldering cigarettes. The 2013 edition specifies a new draft enclosure for consistency with UFAC and ASTM standards.
