NFPA 408 specifies requirements for type and size of portable fire extinguishers for all types of aircraft. It also provides requirements for training flight-crew members in the event of a fire onboard an aircraft.

Updated for 2004, this edition allows that extinguishers passing the new FAA test protocol for Hal on 1211 replacements to be used aboard aircraft.
