NFPA 414 specifies design, performance, and acceptance criteria for aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) vehicles intended to carry personnel and equipment to the scene of an aircraft emergency to rescue occupants and conduct rescue and fire fighting operations.

Changes in the 2007 edition include:

• A new chapter with requirements for an interior access vehicle. Although a vehicle of this type is needed for many of the aircraft in the commercial passenger aircraft fleet, the need for a vehicle to reach the upper decks of the Boeing 747 and the new Airbus A-380 is paramount.
• New requirements for lightweight boom mounted turrets, which can be used as primary turrets.
