NFPA 51A provides safety requirements for the design, construction and installation of acetylene cylinder charging plants, providing rules concerning:

* Acetylene generators

* Compressors

* Piping

* Manifolds

Significant changes in the 2006 edition include:

* Coordination of requirements with NFPA 55: Standard for the Storage, Use, and Handling of Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids in Portable and Stationary Containers, Cylinders, and Tanks

* Clarification of fire suppression requirements

* Clarification of building code-related terminology and requirements

The 2006 NFPA 51A was also completely revised to conform to the NFPA Manual of Style and includes editorial and format changes that improve usability and readability.
