This TGN is applicable to 275 kV and 400 kV lines constructed with towers of the following types.

L2, Blaw Knox L6, BICC L6, J L Eve L6, L6(M) and L66/89

Lines not covered by this TGN are those constructed with towers of types L3, L8, L9 and L12. Should earthwire cradle block stringing be required on such lines then a separate design study would be required.

PURPOSE

Procedure C40 of Linesman's Manual M1defines the method to be used for replacing an earthwire on a double circuit tower line using cradle block stringing. This procedure requires the addition of extra temporary earthwire landing brackets on most tension towers together with temporary reinforcement of tower peaks.

The original guide for this work, which has been used to date, is given in Civil Engineering Centre report No CEC409 dated February 1994. This TGN is an updated version of that original guide.
