This Specification describes the functional and performance requirements for fault recorders on NGC's 400 kV, 275 kV and 132 kV systems.

NGC are currently looking at integrating the fault recorder function with other protection and measurement related functions. The requirements of fault recording, slow scan power system monitoring and quality of supply monitoring are required to be supplied within one Integrated Monitor, for which a separate Specification, NGTS 3.9.13 is in preparation. Once the Integrated Monitor NGTS has been issued, then that document will take precedence over NGTS 3.6.12 and fault recorders should normally be procured to the Integrated Monitor NGTS. NGTS 3.6.12 will be retained for application at existing sites, where, it is deemed necessary by NGC, that a similar type of fault recorder to those already on site, is required. Although some of the functional requirements contained within this document will be migrated to the Integrated Monitor NGTS, technological improvements in the field, will allow for improved performance and functionality than that required in this document.
