This Specification defines the technical requirements for communication between telecontrol systems within the substation, using a Fieldbus protocol. Use of a Fieldbus to connect plant to the Substation Control System is not a mandatory requirement but where a Fieldbus is used within the substation it must conform to these requirements.

The use of Fieldbus is intended to remove the final section of point-to-point cabling from each individual item of I/O and replace this with a single two-core cable or optical fibre.

The processes required for data transfer between the substation and telecontrol master stations or between telecontrol master systems are defined in NGTS 3.7.1 and NGTS 3.7.25.

Data transfers within the substation but external to NGC are not part of the scope of this Specification
