This Specification describes PCM switching multiplexer equipment to be used for voice and data services at a Substation, Control Centre or Administrative office. This equipment forms part of the Corporate Communications Network and more particularly the digital switching network for voice and data services. A variety of standard interface ports are required to provide connection for terminal equipment and primary rate links.

Connection to other CCN multiplexer equipment, located either locally or at remote sites, will be on high speed digital links. Paths can then be set-up between interface ports at any two locations, by switching circuits across the network.
