Since the amplifier must be a separate unit to be carried by technicians, size and weight are important considerations. The unit will require to work from its own self-contained power supply. In order to keep the power supply to a minimum size, a push button self returning switch, labelled "push to Read" is to be included, thus minimising unnecessary current drain.
