Introduction

These notes are for the guidance of Railway officials, when informing users of accommodation and occupation level crossings over railway lines equipped with Overhead Line Equipment, of the measures taken, or to be taken, to prevent their attempting to cross with the vehicles or loads which are so high, or have so large an overhang, as to touch or come dangerously close to the Overhead Line Equipment.

The dangers to the Driver and other persons on the vehicle, as well as to trains, should be suitably emphasised.

It is also important to stress that the arrangements described below are additional to those laid down in laid down in specific instructions issued locally to crossing keepers and signalmen's general instructions. The persons concerned should be reminded of the requirements of such additional standards when the contents of this document are explained to them.

This booklet replaces the booklet "Overhead Electrified Lines - Occupation and Accommodation Level Crossing Clearances, Gauges and Warning Notices" dated March 1966. However the warning notices shown in that booklet, or earlier versions, may still be found on lines electrified before 1977; any new or replacement notices will however be in accordance with Diagram 2 or 6 of this booklet.
