This manual and its associated modules provide guidance on the integration of project engineering activities, additional information for the activities and deliverables within the IELCP and guidance on undertaking the engineering phase gate reviews. It applies to all projects that require Investment Authority, as defined within IR01, Investment Regulations, and:

a) enhance or renew the operational railway; and / or

b) are carried out in a high street environment, e.g. car park developments.

NOTE: IR01, Investment Regulations, is available on Connect (IR01 is an internal document available to staff within Network Rail only).

This manual applies to all Network Rail Alliances and Joint Ventures that are within the scope as described above.

Purpose

The Integrated Engineering Lifecycle for Projects (IELCP) ties together the projects engineering activities, and acts as the integration, assurance and control layer between GRIP and the individual engineering discipline activities. It applies an integrated systems approach for project engineering activities and processes to:

a) help increase consistency across all engineering projects;

b) check the right engineering activities are completed at the right time; and

c) manage and reduce the risks associated with integrating engineering activities.

This manual and its associated modules provide guidance on the implementation of the NR/L2/INI/0300 Integrated Engineering Lifecycle for Projects (IELCP) standard.
