This Network Rail guidance note provides guidance on the specification, design and maintenance of hydraulic systems.

The guidance note provides recommendations relating to hydraulic systems on (owned by Network Rail orhired-in):

• Traction and Rolling Stock(T&RS)

• On Track Machines (OTM)

• On Track Plant (OTP)

• Portable Transportable MobilePlant (PTMP)

• Fixed and Depot Plant

It augments BS EN ISO 4413 andcovers the following sections:

• PART 6: Particular details tobe considered during the SPECIFICATION stage of a hydraulic systems project.

• PART 7: Particular details tobe considered when DESIGNING a hydraulic system.

• PART 8: General maintenancerequirements to help when MAINTAINING uninterrupted performance andmaximise equipment life.

This guidance note is to be usedby anyone (Network Rail or Contracting Entity) involved in the followingactivities with relation to hydraulic systems:

• Procurement

• Development of a specification

• Development of a design

• Development of a maintenance regime

Purpose

This guidance note providesguidance in relation to the specification, design and maintenance of hydraulic fluidpower systems.

It will provide a consistentapproach and defines requirements of a hydraulic system over and above the requirements of BS EN ISO4413
