This document is based mostly upon information contained in NR/GN/SIG/17901 SSI Configuration Guide [Ref 6], with additional information from the SSI Applications Manual (the contents of which are stated in NR/L2/SIG/17002 [Ref1]) and NR/GN/SIG/17903 SSI Hardware Problems [Ref 8].

It is intended to provide information to maintainers of installed SSI systems and does not cover those elements of SSI used with the Design Workstation and On-Site Simulation systems, nor those activities relating to data preparation and scheme design.

It does not include hardware specific information relating to Westlock and Smartlock interlockings.

This issue of the guide provides guidance on the use of the following equipment:

Purpose

This document provides a guide to SSI Hardware. It describes the various parts of the SSI system, and the permitted combinations of hardware and software for each item of equipment. Preferred configurations and upgrade paths are listed as well as any significant problems that have been recorded with equipment. Also described are the testing methods used for testing SSI Trackside Data Links and the tools required.
