GO/RT3260 Issue 2 Appendix B defines the safety critical equipment and activities for which competence certification is required.

Purpose

This Guidance Note is issued to provide guidance to all organisations involved in work on the Network Rail control and communications infrastructure that are required to meet the conditions for safety critical work specified in Group and Line Standards. To aid readability of this document, those documents, which are listed in Section 3, will be referred to as "the enabling Standards".

Sufficient information about types of control and communications work, and also systems and equipment, is included to enable selection of appropriate Standards of Competence relevant to any task. Maximum intervals are specified for the re-assessment of competence within particular types of work. Guidance is given in relation to the staffing and management of Competence Management Systems.
