Purpose

This standard sets out the high level requirements to be followed when undertaking any activity as part of the life cycle management of the track asset.

Adherence to this standard will:

a) align asset management activities to the mitigation, reduction or elimination of business risks for Track;

b) provide a framework to enable optimised life cycle costs; and

c) support compliance with relevant legislation, corporate objectives and Industry Standards.

Scope 

2.1 Assets within scope of this standard

This standard applies to all Track assets owned by Network Rail. Track assets are defined in the Network Rail Asset Accountability Matrix.

2.2 Activities within scope of this standard

All activities that form part of the life cycle management of the track asset.

NOTE: These include inspection, maintenance, design, refurbishment, renewal and enhancement.
