This Procedure applies to the provision of information in connection with all works and activities to be carried out by Contractors on Network Rail owned land where there may be a risk of damage to, or danger from, surface or buried Services. These works and activities include actions carried out under contract to Network Rail or outside parties. They may include (but are not limited to) the following:
• site investigation.
• excavation.
• insertion of spikes, probes, piles or posts.
• access adjacent to or over Services.
NOTE ‘Surface' to mean the original contour of the ground prior to disturbance.
Application of this Procedure facilitates compliance with the provision of information in connection with the design, pre-tender and construction phases of work within the scope of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994 (CDM Regulations). Where the CDM Regulations do not apply, the Procedure facilitates compliance with the requirements of Regulation 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
This Procedure complements NR/SP/BUS/011 Prevention of Damage to and Danger from, Surface and Buried Services.
Purpose
This Procedure details Network Rail's arrangements for provision of information to contractors on surface and buried Services located on Network Rail owned infrastructure and Managed Stations where the ground provides containment or forms a significant part of the support given to that particular Service.
