This module applies to all the functions that are involved in the delivery of Drainage Surveys which also includes both the Route Asset Manager (RAM) and Maintenance functions.

This document defines the requirements for the following Ellipse Standard Jobs:

a) Drainage System General Survey (standard job 009621)

b) Drainage System Intrusive Survey (standard job 009692)

This document does not cover:

a) Drainage Assessment (standard job 009620), the requirements of which are specified in NR/L2/CIV/005/08, Drainage Assessment.

b) Drainage Inspections (standard jobs 009045 and 009616), the requirements of which are specified in NR/L2/CIV/005/04, Drainage Inspections

c) Examination of the structural integrity of culverts (greater than 450mm in internal diameter), the requirements of which are specified in NR/L3/CIV/006/1C, Handbook of the Examination of Structures, Part 3A: Culverts.

Purpose

This module helps mitigate the risk for drainage system failure by defining the requirements for undertaking a Drainage Survey. It aims to clearly define the required quality and completeness of General and Intrusive surveys when they are undertaken by either Network Rail or external contractors.

The module forms part of the Drainage NR/L2/CIV/005 manual as shown in the process map in NR/L2/CIV/005, Drainage System Manual.
