Introduction

This specification provides a common concrete specification for use on all applicable Network Rail infrastructure schemes.

This specification, referred to as Series 1700, differs in style from previous Network Rail specifications due to the introduction of BS EN 13670:2009.

BS EN 13670 is the over-arching execution standard and permits options or additional information to be specified. Many options or additional information have been specified by Network Rail in this specification, but others may be specified by the designer. This specification identifies these options or additional information that, if applicable, the designer should add a reference in Appendix 17/1 to the approved construction drawing or contract document that contains the required information. To help the designer do this, notes for guidance are provided and are identified by the ‘NG’ pre-fix to the specification clause number. The notes for guidance also contain a template Appendix 17.
