This specification applies to the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for the charging of pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric road vehicles (PHEV), including extended range electric vehicles (E-REV).
This specification covers the installation of dedicated electric vehicle charging equipment of the types ‘Mode 3’ and ‘Mode 4’ charging. ‘Mode 1’ and Mode 2’ charging is not to be used on Network Rail infrastructure.
It is not intended to cover socket-outlets provided for general power; references to socket-outlets in this specification are either to dedicated electric vehicle charging socket-outlets or to standard socket-outlets incorporated into dedicated electric vehicle charging equipment.
This specification applies to all new electrical charging points across the Operational Property portfolio including the franchised and non-franchised estate comprising:
• Stations
• Managed Stations
• Maintenance Delivery Unit Accommodation
• Works Delivery Accommodation
• Supply Chain Operations Accommodation
• Workplace Accommodation (Corporate Offices)
• Third Party Funded Railway Car Parks
Purpose
The purpose of this specification is to provide a consistent and standardised approach for the specification and installation of charging points for electrical vehicles (EV) and the associated electrical infrastructure.
It controls the risk and potential failures that may arise from inadequate planning, selection and designing of electric vehicle charging points, such that may result in deficits within:
a) Regulatory compliance.
b) Overloading of the electricity supply. This document provides:
• performance and selection requirements for electric charging points.
• consistent standard of workmanship and construction for the installation EV charging points.
• continuity of design to limit maintenance variations to a practicable minimum.
