This standard consists of two distinctive scopes which have been subdivided between Modules A & B, as follows:

• The scope of Module A covers the requirements related to HV switchgear used for distribution of 25 kV A.C. traction power supplies.

• The scope of Module B covers the requirements related to HV switchgear used for the distribution of HV A.C. supplies for D.C. electrification systems and for non-traction based HV systems.

This standard does not apply to HV switchgear which are owned, operated and maintained by Distribution Network Operators or Transmission Network Operators.

Purpose

This standard states the specific requirements for the design, manufacture, and testing of High Voltage (HV) switchgear used for traction and non-traction power supplies on Network Rail infrastructure.

Compliance with this standard will mitigate the following risks:

• Unclear requirements leading to difficulties in procuring switchgear components;

• Increased costs from different routes and projects working to different sets of requirements;

• Non-compliance of procured components to British and European standards.
