The standard is applicable to all oil filled traction power transformers and transformers for traction power systems operated and maintained by NR. This standard does not apply to transformers which are operated and maintained by Distribution Network Operators or Transmission Network Operators.

Purpose

This module states the requirements for the design of oils, for double enclosure transformers, and for the associated secondary containment systems for transformers used in traction supplies on Network Rail (NR) infrastructure.

The requirements of this module are aimed to mitigate the risk of contamination of sensitive receptors resulting from the spillage of transformer oil. This module provides a hierarchy of containment measures to achieve this. The requirements listed in this standard are compliant with BS EN and NR standards and legislation: The Control of Pollution (oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, The Water Resources (Control of Pollution) (Oil Storage) (Wales) Regulations 2016, and The Water Environment (Miscellaneous) (Scotland) Regulations 2017.
