This module contains the key principles for the management and enhancement of biodiversity and prescribes requirements for producing habitat management plans (HMP) for the rail network.
It applies to the construction of new assets as well as the inspection and maintenance of existing assets.
The module applies to Network Rail and its contractors involved in these activities.
The module applies to:
a) all work on Network Rail controlled infrastructure undertaken by Network Rail, its contractors or other third parties
b) all work by Network Rail or its contractors that takes place outside of the Network Rail controlled infrastructure.
The module does not apply to work completed by lineside neighbours.
The process to obtain survey information is set out in NR/L2/ENV/122/01.
