This standard applies to all business functions within Network Rail in relation to the evaluation and control of work activity risks to Network Rail employees. This standard impacts upon Network Rail employees and persons that might be affected by these activities.

This standard applies to all parts of Network Rail not using NR/L2/OHS/0044, Planning and managing construction work.

Purpose 

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require that Network Rail as an employer, makes suitable and sufficient assessments of the risk to the health and safety of its employees and others that might be affected by its work activities. 

The standard describes the process by which Network Rail: 

a) conducts suitable and sufficient assessments of risk as required by Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999; 

b) assesses risks associated with the work activities carried out by Network Rail employees; and 

c) documents and makes available the findings of work activity risk assessments.
