The scope of this manual is to mandate the requirements for the use of additional protection and warning systems on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure (NRMI)

This manual applies to systems designed for trackworker protection and warning systems as detailed in clause 6.

The manual does not apply to Solid State Interlocking (SSI) disconnections, Engineering Possession Reminders (EPR), or traditional lockout devices.

Information on some systems is not included at this published version but will be included in future updates.

Table 1 lists the modules associate with this standard. Each module should be read in conjunction with this standard.

Purpose

The purpose of this manual is to provide a framework within which the minimum standards for track worker protection and warning systems are contained.

In addition, the manual and modules provide- details of:

• Technical requirements

• Competence requirements

• The installation types e.g. permanent or portable etc.

• Introduces modules for each existing product category, including the requirements for design, implementation, testing, planning, maintenance, and signposting to manufacturers instruction manuals and supporting documents.
