Network Rail
This standard provides guidance on the design and installation of controlled effluent retention facility in Network rail owned, leased or hired depot. It specifies requirements for waste extraction using vacuum assistance from rolling stock through hoses into holding tanks, filtering, maceration, attenuation for the controlled discharge into the main sewer under water company consent discharge allowances.
This standard should be used by individuals and organisations involved in designing, constructing or enhancing rail depots that have fixed controlled emission toilet servicing system. It does not give guidance on the maintenance or operation of any controlled emission toilet discharge system or design of temporary or mobile CET servicing system.
Purpose
This Standard defines the minimum requirements for technical and engineering activities related to the installation and use of Controlled Emission Toilet (CET) servicing facility.
The implementation of this standard helps to mitigate the risk of contact with effluent and/or controlling the risks the effluent poses to the environment for a controlled effluent retention facility on railway depots.
The standard helps mitigation against non-compliance with Railway and Other Guided Systems Regulations 2006 (ROGS) and European Directive 2006/118/EC.
