This specification applies to all on tracking, off tracking and cross tracking of road-rail vehicles including leaving and returning to the track where the rails have been removed.

This specification is applicable to all types of rail guidance systems including:

road-rail vehicles that drive onto and off the rails by means of either their road wheels or caterpillar tracks. (Type A).

road-rail vehicles that on and off track by means of jack legs and lateral movement beams to allow side shift. (Type B).

Purpose

This Specification lays down the safe on and off tracking of road-rail vehicles to mitigate the possibility of derailing or overturning the vehicle, potentially causing injury to people or damage to the vehicle and/or infrastructure, whilst undertaking this process.
