Where required in the Rule Book, the signaller is required to confirm, normally by observation of the tail lamp from the signalbox, that a train has arrived complete before accepting a second train from another signalbox or allowing a second train onto a single line. Where it is proposed that a signaller shall not directly observe that the train is complete then one alternative means is the use of a tail light camera.
This specification applies to all signalling schemes and detailed design where it is proposed to introduce or amend a tail light camera in order to enable a signaller to confirm that a train has arrived complete..
Tail lamp cameras for the use of signallers to fulfil requirements of the block regulations shall be managed and maintained as a signalling asset.
Purpose
This section forms part of the Signalling Principles Handbook (NR/L2/SIG/30009) and is to be read in conjunction with the other modules of the handbook.
This Section details Network Rail's policy on the application rules for tail lamp cameras and comprises mandatory sections and statements of best practice (which shall be followed unless an alternative can be demonstrated to be beneficial to the company and no less safe).
