Purpose
This document forms a part of the Modular Signalling Handbook. It summarises the activities needed in order to demonstrate that the correct processes have been followed and that the project works can be brought into service safely.
Modular Signalling delivers cost savings by repeated application of the same products and processes. Following initial assurance of these products and processes, safety assurance for each scheme can be achieved by verifying that the application is made in accordance with the documented methods and limits. Where application is made outside of these limits a scheme specific assurance action will be needed.
The processes used by the suppliers of Modular Signalling systems for detailed design, testing and construction include the assurance activities they carry out to ensure their products meet the general and specific requirements of the project. This document indicates the assurance activities Network Rail need to carry out in order to support the project works through design, construction and into service.
Compliance through the project lifecycle is recorded on a checklist, shown at the end of this document. The project stages and the key assurance activities associated with that stage.
