This standard is applicable where the DTS is planned to be used on Network Rail infrastructure.

Module 1 covers the basic operating principles for the use of the DTS.

Module 2 covers planning and site assessment, site preparation, delivery of works, completion of works and recording of works using the DTS.

The standard applies to:

a) Renewal/enhancement work;

b) Refurbishment work;

c) Maintenance work.

This standard applies to all S&C and plain line track assets, excluding:

d) Bull head rail track systems

e) Slab track

f) Direct-fastened track

g) Track supported on longitudinal timbers

The use of DTS is prohibited on all track types outside the scope of the standard.

Purpose

This standard provides the requirements for the use of the Dynamic Track Stabiliser (DTS) to maximise the benefit to the railway through ballast consolidation of the track system and to mitigate risk to Network Rail infrastructure through use of the DTS.

This standard links controls identified in the following track bowties:

a) NR/GN/TRK/8001/0603 (Switches and Crossings: Failure to provide correct guidance of train wheels)

b) NR/GN/TRK/8001/0403 (Loss of geometry (horizontal alignment) beyond safety limits)

c) NR/GN/TRK/8001/0203 (Loss of geometry (twist and cyclic top) beyond safety limits)

This standard aids compliance with:

d) NR/L2/TRK/2102 (Design and Construction of Track)

e) NR/L2/TRK/001 (Inspection & Maintenance of Permanent Way)
