This Network Rail standard applies to the installation and maintenance of the following stretcher bar assemblies:

a) Tubular stretcher bar

b) Fixed stretcher bar

c) Adjustable stretcher bar

d) Lock stretcher bar

It applies to full and shallow depth switches in running lines, including plain leads, slips and switch diamonds (with the exception of NR60 Mk2 switch diamonds).

For the following assemblies, only the installation instructions detailed within this standard are applicable:

a) Stretcher bars on bull head rail

b) Stretcher bars on non-running lines

This standard does not apply to:

a) HPSS operated switches and crossings

b) Hy-drive operated switches and crossings. 

c) Train Operated Points (TOPs)

This standard applies to all staff involved with the installation, inspection and maintenance of switches and crossings. 

Purpose

This standard provides one reference document for stretcher bars. It details the limits and actions required to prevent derailments associated with stretcher bar components.
