This module outlines revised inspection and maintenance regimes for switch and crossing track systems under standardised RBM regimes. This module applies to the inspection and maintenance of the following assets on running lines:
a) All Flat Bottom switches and crossing panels
b) All Bearer Types (Concrete, Timber, Steel & Composite)
c) All Track categories
d) Line speed 125mph or less
e) Axle loads 25.5 tonnes or less
f) All Points Operating Equipment
g) Train Borne Geometry recording on at least one route (to prescribed frequencies)
h) Insulated rail joints & tight joints within S&C layouts
NOTE The intention of the inclusion or exclusion of sleepers is that every bearer needs to be dynamically recorded, though not on every route.
The requirements of NR/L2/TRK/7014/03 must also be applied to manage plain rail sections between the assets above.
The scope of this standard excludes the following assets:
a) All Bullhead S&C Layouts
b) track without dynamic geometry recording – this includes crossover roads which are supported by more than 3 independent sleepers.
c) expansion joints (jointed track)
d) adjustment switches (see relevant Plain Line modules)
e) Structural expansion switches
NOTE These excluded assets continue to be inspected and maintained as mandated in other modules of this standard or NR/L2/TRK/001 unless bespoke Risk Based Maintenance regimes are ented as per NR/L2/MTC/10662.
