This document describes an efficient delivery process for the implementation of OMSL level crossings.
Purpose
This module describes the recommended processes to reduce the cost of implementation of Overlay Miniature Stop Light (OMSL) level crossings to an affordable level without compromising safety. Signalling design processes are followed as set out in NR/L2/SIG/11201 and this document informs how to comply in an efficient manner. The decision as to whether to use the processes contained within this document lies with the Route Asset Manager (Signalling) (RAM(S)), who may choose to use the full conventional implementation processes due to the complexities of the site.
The processes described in this document show how ‘efficient delivery’ of OMSLs can be achieved with the RAM(S) taking the lead (and the Construction Design Management (CDM) Principle Designer role). If the level crossing being considered for OMSL installation is part of a larger scheme being undertaken by NR Infrastructure Projects (IP) (or others), then some or all of the duties shown in this document as being carried out by the RAM(S) could be undertaken instead by the NR project team with the Client’s agreement.
