This Manual applies to Drainage Systems that are owned and/or managed by Network Rail and which are used for draining;

• the Track Support System,

• Earthworks and other off-track Catchments, and

• below the track level in Tunnels.

Other than at their interfaces this Manual does not apply to;

• Operational Property Drainage Systems, and

• Drainage Systems for structures, such as Bridges, Tunnels and Retaining Walls, that are managed as part of the structure.

This Manual can also apply to Drainage Systems abutting, feeding or receiving flow to or from railway Drainage Systems, and those that cross Network Rail infrastructure.

This Manual does not define commercial, health and safety, or operational safety responsibilities. Although safety requirements are not stated in this Manual, certification for competence is required prior to;

• entry into confined spaces - such as Manholes, Culverts and Interceptors, and,

• working at heights - such as above Tunnel portals.

Purpose

The purpose of this Part of the Manual is to provide direction and guidance on the preparation, issuing and updating of Drainage Management Plans (DMPs).
