The examination regimes included in this module can also be applied to ancillary assets, which sit outside the structures management framework. 

This module does not apply to reservoirs.

This module does not cover procedures for unscheduled examinations undertaken in response to an incident. Responsive procedures covered elsewhere are: 

• responsive reports by staff operators and public; 

• bridge strike incidents;

• adverse and extreme weather events.

Purpose 

This module outlines the process to plan and undertake structures examinations. 

Examinations identify changes to the asset, its use, and its environment to inform management decisions.

This module mitigates the risk of functional failures going undetected by the asset management teams [Structures], which may result in accidents and/or disruptions to the operation of the railway network.
