This part of the handbook applies to all Network Rail owned or managed Bridges, Shared Bridges, Outside Party Bridges and other Structures assigned to Structure Category A in accordance with NR/L1/CIV/032: Managing existing Structures¹ within the Spacia property portfolio. Such Bridges may be assigned as Structure Category A2. Guidance as to the extent of the Spacia property portfolio may be found in GIS portal. Where an Obstruction is present, the principles of this part of the handbook may also be applied to Bridges spanning:

• Network Rail commercial property;

• Operational Property;

• land not owned or leased by Network Rail.

Particular requirements for examination of Bridges assigned as Structure Category A1 are given in Part 2A.

Purpose

The purpose of this part of the handbook is to define the particular requirements and recommendations for examination of Bridges with Tenanted Spans.
