This part of the handbook applies to all Network Rail owned or managed and Operational Property Structures that have been assigned to Structure Category E in accordance with NR/L1/CIV/032: Managing existing Structures.

This part of the handbook also applies to the following Structures within Operational Property:

• Footbridges and other Bridges assigned to Structure Category A;

• Retaining Walls assigned to Structure Category B;

• Ancillary Structures assigned to Structure Category G.

The part of the handbook does not apply to Inspections of Buildings within Operational Property.

Purpose

The purpose of this part of the handbook is to define the requirements for examination of Operational Property Structures that have been assigned to Structure Category E in accordance with NR/L1/CIV/032: Managing existing Structures¹; and other Structures within Operational Property assigned to other Structure Categories.

Requirements for inspection of Buildings within Operational Property that have been assigned to Structure Category E in accordance with NR/L1/CIV/032 are given in Part 7B.
