This Section of the Model Clauses is intended for use in conjunction with Sections 50 - 53: Earthworks and Excavations for works below formation level, and with Sections 180 - 182: Building and Structure Drainage.

These Sections of the Model Clauses should be read in conjunction with the Highways Agency Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, Volume 1, Specification for Highway Works and Volume 2, Notes for Guidance on the Specification for Highway Works.

Sections 200 - 204 correspond to the following Series of the Specification for Highway Works:

• Series 000 Introduction, Clause 002 Terms and Abbreviations,

• Series 000 Introduction, Clause 005 Thickness of Material and Tolerances,

• Series 600 Earthworks, Clauses 613 to 617, Subformation and capping,

• Series 700 Road Pavements – General,

• Series 800 Road Pavements – Unbound, cement and other hydraulically bound mixtures,

• Series 900 Road Pavements - Bituminous Bound Materials,

• Series 1000 Road Pavements – Concrete Materials,

• Series 1100 Kerbs, Footways and Paved Areas,

• Series 1200 Traffic Signs, Clauses 1201 to 1212 (part).

The Highways Agency uses the Appendices in the Notes for Guidance on the Specification for Highway Works to specify contract-specific details. The Specifier should check that the specific details required to be included in these Appendices for a particular contract are covered on the Contract Drawings or elsewhere in the Contract, as appropriate
