The work instruction defines the process of designing, selecting and construction of new installations and refurbishment of Escalators within the operational property portfolio and third-party schemes on Network Rail infrastructure.

Purpose

The purpose of this work instruction is to provide a systematic approach to the selection and design of Escalators and Moving Walks.

It controls the risk and potential failures that may arise from inadequate planning, selection and designing of Escalators and Moving Walk assets, such that may result in deficits within:

a) Regulatory compliance;

b) spacial planning and layout;

c) passenger provisions;

d) maintenance and serviceability;

e) life cycle planning;

f) asset reliability.

NOTE: It should be read in conjunction with other asset policies.
