With regard to NR/GN/CIV/041, this standard:

1. Redefines the original pointing line of Stonework as the reference from which to determine the severity of a defect (rather than the original face of the Stonework as currently defined in NR/GN/CIV/041).

2. Provides further examples of the application of SCMI to Stonework and Brickwork.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to improve the consistency of condition ratings given to Masonry Bridges by defining a change to, and expanding upon, the information given in NR/GN/CIV/041: Structures Condition Marking Index handbook for Bridges¹.
