This Work Instruction applies to all maintenance work on electrification, plant, signalling and telecommunications equipment incorporating asbestos materials or components asbestos.

Purpose

This Work Instruction supplements existing maintenance instructions with asbestos related requirements for electrification, plant, signalling, and telecommunications equipment incorporating asbestos materials or components.

Appendix B of this document comprises method statements, which are applicable to maintenance work on generic equipment types, and which define the limits of maintenance work that may be safely carried out by Network Rail's staff or its contractors without the need for PPE or RPE.

Any work which does require PPE or RPE shall only be carried out by an HSE licensed contractor or laboratory, under controlled conditions, and supported by a task specific method statement.
