This standard specifies how Network Rail shall dispose of records and information that is time expired according to the Corporate Records Retention Schedule. It relates to both the disposal of records in hard copy and electronic formats. It specifies processes relating to disposal timescales, disposal methods, ownership of records and transfer of designated records to the Corporate Archive.

This standard applies to all Network Rail staff and Network Rail contractors who are responsible for managing information and records.

Purpose

This standard sets out the approach to the disposal of records no longer required by Network Rail in line with the Corporate Records Retention Schedule(NR/L3/INF/02226).

This standard mitigates the risk of records being disposed of inappropriately and enables records to be disposed of in a timely manner when there is no longer a reason to retain the information. Managing records and information efficiently enables Network Rail to conform with legal requirements.
