The process outlines the method for formally disseminating information to all personnel working within Infrastructure Projects.

Note: For the purposes of this process the definition "All personnel working within Infrastructure Projects", covers:

a) individuals working directly for Infrastructure Projects employed on either a permanent or contract basis;

b) staff seconded into Infrastructure Projects from Network Rail/other contracting organisation who are employed on either a permanent or contract basis.

It covers the following types of briefing:

a) awareness;

b) detailed.

Note 1: Within Infrastructure Projects the phrase "detailed briefing" replaces "technical briefing" as defined in NR/L2/EBM/STP001.

Note 2: A definition of awareness and detailed briefing is included within Clause 4.

Note 3: The nature of the information to be briefed will determine the type of briefing required.

The process for cascading urgent information (i.e. safety bulletins) is incorporated into the overall briefing process.

The briefing process includes changes to processes, updated health and safety information, Project Advice Notes (PANs), Network Rail/Railway Group standards and changes relating to legislation.

Communications specifically excluded from the process are:

a) general Human Resources communications;

b) individual project specific communications;

c) period line management briefings (i.e. Line Management Cascade, MBR Reports etc)

where formal record retention is not required.

Purpose

The process contained within this standard identifies the formal communication arrangements for the cascade of information within Infrastructure Projects, in order to alert affected individuals to new or changed information which may be appropriate to them.
