This procedure applies to all maintenance areas that are authorised by the Head of Rail Vehicle Engineering to manage and maintain their own assets.

This procedure does not apply to the management of assets hired in by the maintenance function.

This procedure does not apply to the planning of servicing/maintenance/repair of road aspects of the assets (process not defined here).

NOTE: The AMPE should consult with the Road Vehicles Co-ordinator and together they should agree, where possible, that servicing, repair and/or maintenance activities be planned to be undertaken so as to minimise the time the asset is unavailable for use.

This procedure does not apply to the daily pre-start checks required as a part of the assets certificated maintenance plan (process defined in NR/CS/OPS/046; The Train Operations Manual).

It is the responsibility of the Territory Maintenance Director to make sure that all roles identified in this procedure are mapped to the relevant Territory/Area/Delivery Unit/other organisation.

Purpose

This procedure sets out the requirements to be in place to manage the maintenance of Network Rail owned assets by Network Rail Infrastructure Maintenance (IM) staff through a controlled maintenance programme in accordance with the certificated maintenance plans for the individual asset.
