PURPOSE

To achieve current UK CO2 emission targets, the nation will need make its use of energy as efficiently as possible. As the largest energy consumer, UK industry must play its part in supporting climate goals.

In order to improve efficiency, more granularity in monitoring electricity usage may be necessary in some areas of the business. In order to achieve this, the installation of electricity meters will be required.

By allowing the business to more effectively monitor energy use, the installation of electricity meters will offer insights on how ways of working can be modified to save energy as well as helping to achieve cost saving benefits.

An electricity meter will require surface mounting in a position that can be segregated from general occupants or users of the building in which it is installed, as well as cabling to and from the meter. However, the space envelope required will be small, so installation could take place in a pre-existing utility cupboard (for example).

Where an electricity meter is installed in an existing building, modification of the building’s electrical infrastructure will be necessary.
