This procedure applies to individuals undertaking shift station and station management roles.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to outline a competency framework and associated training and development plan for those working in shift station manager roles so that they have the right skills and knowledge to undertake their role safely and effectively.
Station managers have specific duties in respect of managing safety, fire and security risks at stations as well as overseeing retail outlets, contractors, passengers and other visitors to the stations. In addition, the have specific responsibilities as line managers for the customer service assistants. Therefore, having the right skills and knowledge is critical to their ability to effectively manage those risks and manage a team who collectively manage the risk.
Compliance with this standard supports compliance with Office of Rail and Regulation Railway Safety Publication 1: Developing and maintaining staff competence (Nov 2016); the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
