This procedure applies to signallers and crossing keepers in single-staffed locations. 

PURPOSE 

This procedure sets out the requirements for signallers and crossing keepers to have opportunities for rest breaks when working in single-staffed locations. Such breaks are necessary to contribute to staff physical, mental and social wellbeing and well as to provide opportunities to attend to physical needs. 

Network Rail recognises that for shifts longer than six hours, every worker is entitled to a rest break of not less than 20 minutes, in accordance with the Working Time Regulations (as amended,1998).
