This procedure applies to:

• BTET instructions being written for signallers and other operational staff on Network Rail managed infrastructure.

• BTET instructions for any form of electrification (e.g. 25 kv overhead electrification, DC third rail electrification) on Network Rail managed infrastructure.

• all Network Rail personnel who have a responsibility for preparing, approving, issuing, distributing or briefing of BTET instructions.

• BTET instructions being supplied for operational staff of sections of railway that interface and / or are operated by third parties where the OHL is managed by Network Rail.

PURPOSE

To provide Network Rail with a process to make sure that Blocked To Electric Trains (BTET) instructions are prepared, authorised, published and briefed in a consistent manner across the network.

NOTE: Blocked To Electric Trains instructions are sometimes referred to as signaller’s isolation instructions. For the purposes of clarity and to avoid confusion with electrical isolation instructions, they should be referred to as Blocked to Electric Trains instructions throughout this document.
