This Network Rail standard specifies the process for managing OTM driver route learning and the management of external route conductors. It includes the assessment of initial route learning and route knowledge retention for OTM drivers. 

 It is applicable to:

a) all Network Rail Directly Operated Fleet OTM drivers;

b) those involved in training OTM drivers 

c) those involved in assessing OTM drivers’ route knowledge

d) those involved in hiring in external route conductors 

Purpose 

This procedure defines the arrangements for the training, assessing and retention of route knowledge for On-Track Machine (OTM) drivers. 

The procedure also defines the arrangements for the managing the risks arising from the hiring in of External Route Conductors to undertake route conducting duties for Directly Operated Fleet (DOF).
