Introduction
A battery is a self-contained source of power. It produces electricity by means of a chemical reaction within a cell. A cell produces between one and two volts (depending what type it is), and one or more cells are connected together to give the required total battery voltage. The cells are usually connected in series, with the negative of one cell joined to the positive of the next.
