This standard applies to testing of the ETD emergency facilities (999 - 112) onNetwork Rail owned electronic PABX switches, where this facility is provided. including those situated in Infrastructure Fault Controls.

It does not include the testing of 999 – 112 facilities on ETD services provided by service providers such as Century link or British Telecom and lineside telephony such as level crossings, signal post telephones, emergency phones etc which are

tested as part of their routine maintenance as specified in:

a) NR/L2/TEL/30084; and

b) NR/L2/TEL/30097.

Purpose

This instruction defines the requirements for the functional testing of the emergency facilities provided on Network Rail Telecoms infrastructure or that are provided to Network Rail under contractual agreements. The testing of emergency calls assures connection to the emergency operator can be successfully established and the correct location of calling party is recorded on the emergency operator database.
